My favorite month of the year is October. Every year I look forward to it, and every year it goes by way too fast.
It’s been a wonderful month with a trip to Salem, Massachusetts, to enjoy the history (and to see a dear friend) and a lot of activity for Blue Ribbon Events. However, there were a few things I didn’t get to do this year that I never usually miss, and now I am wishing I could have a few extra days to fit them in:
The Washington International Horse Show – As an avid equestrian I never miss this premier annual event which features top national and international riders and excellent shopping. The best part, however, is a chance to see the horses in their temporary barns on the streets of DC as you are walking by to meet a colleague for coffee. When I can, I’ve also volunteered in the WIHS’ Media Office for a behind-the-scenes look.
Apple Picking – What activity could be more fit for October? I recommend Cox Farms in Centreville, Virginia – you will have your fill of animals to see, apples to pick, pumpkins to take home, and delicious treats. It’s a great location for a fun family photo.
Bake – I’m loving pumpkin scones and muffins. I’m looking forward to trying this recipe from the Joy of Baking, but without raisins.
